St. Louis boasts a range of community resources designed specifically for Black youth, offering vital opportunities for connection and a strong sense of belonging. Explore just a few of the many resources available within the St. Louis community for youth who are underrepresented or have experienced adversity.
Restaurants
SweetArt Bakeshop & Cafe St. Louis – 100% vegan savory eats and sweet treats
Steve’s Hot Dogs – Home of the ‘Official Hot Dog of St. Louis’
Eddie’s Southtown Donuts – Nut-free and all handmade donut shop.
Vails Brothers Shrimp Chicken & Fish – Southern soul food with a Midwest twist
Taste of Black STL – Festival that highlights the black-owned restaurants in the area
Summer Camps
Age Group: 1st grade – 9th grade
Dates: Overnight summer camps run from June 23rd – August 4th for 1 – 2 weeks depending on age
Cost: varies depending on age from $35-$75
Gene Slay’s Girls & Boys Club of St. Louis
Age: 6 -16 years
Dates: June 3rd – July 26th, Monday – Friday from 8am – 6 pm
Cost: $360 (offer’s sliding fee scale and scholarships.
Boys and Girls Club Summer Camps (Includes breakfast and lunch)
Age: 6 -18 years old.
Dates: June 10th – August 2nd
Cost: $275 (plus $25 membership fee)
Extracurriculars
Big Brothers Big Sisters – Connects children (“Littles”) ages 5 through young adulthood with an adult volunteer (“Bigs”), to create a one-to-one mentoring relationship.
The Village – The Village’s mission is to support the next generation by connecting youth with adults to offer academic assistance, guidance, and life skills training.
Boys and Girls Club – The Boys and Girls Club has various locations across St. Louis that offer afterschool and teen programming focused on the arts, education and career development, sports and recreation, etc.
Family Fun & Leisure
Rides n’ School Supplies – Providing our community’s youth motivation through exposure and inspirational experience
Annie Malone Children & Family Services – A long-standing social service agency in the St. Louis area that aims to reduce the presence of crisis in our community.
Young Biz Kidz – A nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower young people by engaging and encouraging financial literacy and entrepreneurship in youth.
St. Louis Public Library – Facility that offers learning resources and information services that support and improve individual, family and community life.
Hair Care & Grooming
Sha’lon Salon
Services include: Men, women, and youth haircuts, women styles, all kids’ hair styles.
MahlTheBarber
Services include: Adult and youth ages 6+ haircuts.
Vicky Braid
Services include: All braiding styles for men, women, and youth of various ages.
Shack’s Barber Shop
Services include: Men, women, and youth haircuts.
