CORE Teen: Understanding and Managing Youth’s Challenging Behaviors – Part 1
The session will focus on survival strategies that are now recognized as dysfunctional within a family unit. Rejection, testing, disrespect, anger, and withdrawal can be particularly challenging for parents who discover that their previous parenting strategies are ineffective when dealing with a teenager who has experienced trauma and loss.

Strangers Under Your Roof
This training explores the impact that occurs when a family introduces a foster or adoptive child into their home. Family dynamics undergo significant changes, priorities shift, and social activities are transformed as a result of incorporating a new person into an existing family structure. Unmet expectations often cause angst for all family members. Parents will learn about the predictable developmental stages of resource families and how the unit can progress towards mobilization in the pursuit of a new and more fulfilling family reality.

Sensory Processing and Integration
Difficulties with sensory processing are often confused with behavioral problems. Children who have been in foster care or adopted are at a heightened risk of experiencing these challenges. Learn about Sensory Processing Disorder, its signs and symptoms, suggested ways that parents and teachers can help, and resources in the area. This two-part training provides parents with a hands-on experience. To register, call 314.968.2350 ext. 7234 or email intake.dept@familyforwardmo.org
Understanding the Effects of Sexual Abuse
Parenting a child with a history of sexual abuse can be frightening—from responding to the child’s acting out behavior to dealing with emotions. Discussions focus on the best ways to minimize the trauma and help your child heal. Sex trafficking will be explored in the training. This is a two-week class, attendance at both weeks is strongly encouraged. To register, call 314.968.2350 ext. 7234 or email intake.dept@familyforwardmo.org
